Mariners bounce back big

So far so good this season for Silver Bay volleyball, even though they have a new coach and a youthful team, it certainly does show on the volleyball court.

So far so good this season for Silver Bay volleyball, even though they have a new coach and a youthful team, it certainly does show on the volleyball court.

Last week the Mariners did drop a game to Cromwell 3-1 in the team’s home-opener.

“The played well, but we just couldn’t pull the win off,” said Head Coach Andrea McMillen.

Jessica Solberg had 10 kills in the game including a 100 percent serving percentage to go along with one ace-serve and five digs. Kirstin Sandstrom added 13 kills, seven ace-serves and 11 digs to help the Mariner cause. Katrina Davis also helped out the team with 26 set-assists, six digs and three ace-serves.

The Mariners were able to bounce back with a win over AlBrook 3-1 this week. Sandstrom was the star of the game getting 12 ace-hits, three digs, three ace-serves and two blocks.

Solberg also helped out the cause with eight ace-hits and five ace-serves. Davis had 23 set assists to go along with five ace-serves and digs.

Later this week, the Mariners took down McGregor 3-0.

Sandstrom had 11 kills with two ace-serves and four digs. Solberg had five kills, plus three ace-serves and digs and one block. Davis had eight ace serves in the game, 21 set assists and three digs.

“I don’t think we have piqued yet,” McMillen said
