Thursday, Sept. 17, will give Silver Bay residents their first glimpse of a new era in Mariner volleyball.

After succeeding long-time coach Tom Frericks, Andrea McMillen will be roaming the Mariners, sidelines at the team’s first home game of the season against Cromwell.

“It hasn’t been different than I thought it would be,” McMillen said about coaching a high school team, adding she is looking forward to the first home game of the season.

The team has started its season with a record of 2-1, losing its first game of the season to Barnum this week 3-0.

Kirstin Sandstrom had eight digs in the game and Stevi Rannetsberger added seven of her own. Katrina Davis had two ace-serves.

“Barnum was a measuring stick,” McMillen said about judging the team’s success.

Upcoming home games for the Mariners include 6:30 p.m. matches against McGregor (Sept. 22), Cook County (Sept. 24) and their rivalry game against Two Harbors (Sept. 29).
