The Mariners volleyball team may have a new coach and some new faces (they lost many seniors from last year’s squad), but that didn’t stop them from getting a season opening-win Tuesday against Ely.
“I knew they could play well as a team,” said head coach Andrea McMillen. “I was very excited for the win.”
The team had a 90 for serve percentage in their 3-1 win.
“We had nice ball control and hitting,” McMillen said. “We played [our] position very well.”
Kirstin Sandstrom had nine ace kills in the game and three ace serves. Katrina Davis had three ace serves and 18 ace sets and Nikki Babbitt had three ace serves and one ace tip.
Last week McMillen stated: “We want to try and win half the games.”
With this win, the Mariners are on their way to achieving their goal, or even better.
