A new face will lead the Silver Bay Mariner’s volleyball team this season.
Andrea McMillen, will replace veteran coach Tom Frericks after a long stint with the team.
Frericks led the team last season to a 17-5 record losing in the section quarterfinals.
“They were a good team,” said McMillen about the 2008 version of the Mariners. “We lost everyone but four players from varsity.”
The squad graduated six seniors including middle hitters Kyla Thorne and Heather LaBerge, defensive specialist Biz Huss, outside hitter Emma Deaner, setter Katherine Michalski and defensive specialist Amelia Davis.
Leading the team this year’s team will be seniors: middle hitter Kirstin Sandstrom, outside hitter Jessica Solberg, back-row specialist Stevi Rannetsberger and setter Katrina Davis.
“We want to try and win half the games,” McMillen said. “(We want to) have a good serving percentage.”
McMillen added the team has great chemistry and communicates well.
Last week the team competed in a jamboree and performed very well, according to McMillen.
There are 28 players out for volleyball this year between grades 9-12.
The team’s first home game of the season will be Sept. 17 against Cromwell at 6:30 p.m.
