Northshore Mining held a very nice retirement reception on Tuesday afternoon at the Silver Bay Reunion for the 18 people who recently retired. Those who retired in June were Ron Aldinger, Mark Buckley, Richard Gradine, Fred Hendrickson, Kevin Klemmer, Mike Leino, Laurie Rasmussen, Penny Rogers, Sue Smrekar, Denny and Jean Wagner.
Retiring in July were Wally Hart, Wayne Fenstad, Randy Jarvis. Bob Ostby, Julie Shere, Jim Sinderman and Nancy Smith.
Mike Milnar told how the recent retirees had gained a tremendous amount of experience. With their Reserve and Northshore combined experience it totaled almost 500 years. Best wishes to these retirees and enjoy your retirement!
Ann Striker of Foley and Doug Striker of St. Cloud motored up on Sunday to spend several days at Nikolai Farm. DeAnn and Jakob Striker joined them there on Monday. They were also joined by Vanessa Rakow of St. Cloud and her niece Alliand Hill and nephew Austin Hill of Coon Rapids. They enjoyed sightseeing on the North Shore.
The Class of 1959, which was the first graduating class to graduate from William Kelley High School held their 50th Class Reunion this past weekend. This class spent part of their high school days attending classes in different houses. Judy Himes Martell and Twyla Haveri Nowotczynski attended some of the activities held through the weekend.
Bob Nikolai had an unfortunate accident late Saturday afternoon when part of the hay baler fell, trapping his leg under it. Get well wishes go out to Bob for a speedy recovery.
The Tori, which is a Finnish market place and music fest will be held this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., rain or shine, at the Finland Heritage Site which is located on the Little Marais Road. There will be plenty of music and also a bon fire on Saturday evening at dusk. On Sunday morning they will also have a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon at the site.
