Norman Cecil Southard, 61, Knife River, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 21.
Norman Cecil Southard, 61, Knife River, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 21. Norm was born August 13, 1947 in St. Louis, Missouri and grew up in Chicago. In 1967 he entered the United States Air Force and played in the Drum and Bugle Corps, and was honorably discharged in 1973.
He was employed at the telephone company in Mound and Two Harbors. Norm moved to Knife River with his wife Susan in 1983. He worked at North Shore Track Services in Duluth where he will be greatly missed.
Norm was a member of The Jaycee’s in Mound and the Knife River Lutheran Church. He served on the Lake County Board of Adjustments and Planning and Zoning. Norm was a Master Nautical Pilot, volunteered at local fund-raisers and enjoyed helping others. He enjoyed riding his Harley and snowmobiling. Norm could fix anything.
He is survived by his wife Susan; daughters Jennifer (Zack) Reimers, and Sara Shaw; his son Mark Southard; a granddaughter Alison Shaw; a brother Karl (Melissa) Southard, sister, Christine Southard; and nieces and nephews. He’s preceded in death by his father Cecil Southard and mother Leora Quinn.
Norm will truly be missed by his family and friends.
Memorial service will be held at Knife River Lutheran Church on Saturday, July 25 at 11a.m.
In lieu of flowers the family has set up a trust account for Norm’s granddaughter, Alison Shaw at The Lake Bank.
