DALE LeROY BANKSHe was born near Charles City, Iowa on November 25, 1922, to Edward and Elsie (White) Banks and grew up and attended schools in Floyd County and Charles City. He married Carol Jean Janssen on May 21, 1943 and had two children Bonnie Tikkanen and Ronald Banks.
Dale L. Banks 86, Finland, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2009.
He was born near Charles City, Iowa on November 25, 1922, to Edward and Elsie (White) Banks and grew up and attended schools in Floyd County and Charles City. He married Carol Jean Janssen on May 21, 1943 and had two children Bonnie Tikkanen and Ronald Banks. After returning from WW II, he was employed as a mechanic at Buick garage until 1952, when he moved his family to Minneapolis and was foreman at Unipress. From 1958 to 1973 Dale and Carol operated Banks Store and Cabins and learned to love the little community with a big heart, but roaming fever hit again and they moved to Gully, MN and operated the Gully Liquor Store from 1974-1978. They later lived in Houston, TX and Berthoud, CO and finally came back their favorite place to build their dream home on Little Marais Road, overlooking Lake Superior. Dale loved traveling and took his family to every state west of the Mississippi River plus others. Hunting and fishing were a great passion in his younger years. e alsoH He also loved working with his hands and with wood and created many heirlooms for his family. He had a good work ethic and never quit until a project was completed. He lived life to its fullest.
Dale is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Carol, mother and father-in-law Albert and Constance Janssen, brothers and sisters-in-law Barney and Edna Banks, Bill and Bette Banks, Wes and Bonnie Banks, sister Gladys Corrier, sister-in-law Doris Banks, brother-in-law Dale Krumrey, and granddaughter Jamie Tikkanen.
Dale is survived by his sisters Viola Krumrey of Charles City, Iowa and Mildred Hess, Warren, MN, sister and brother-in-law Helen and Jack Kirchberg, of Pine City, MN, brother and sister-in-law Larry (Donna) Janssen of Cambridge, MN, daughter Bonnie (Wally) Tikkanen of Finland, son Ronald (Jean) Banks of Columbia, TN, granddaughters LouAnn (Dave Thompson) of Knife River, Deedra (Russell) Carroll of Spring Hill, TN, grandson Jeff (Shelly) Tikannen of Finland, great-grandsons Jeremy (Arlene) Tikkanen of Finland, Cameron and Carson Carroll, Spring Hill, TN, two step-great-grandsons Dakota and Skylar Thompson of Knife River, great-great-grandsons Sully and Hunter Tikkanen of Finland and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service: 11 AM, Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church in Finland. Burial will be at Crystal Bay Cemetery. Arrangements by Cavallin Funeral Home.
