Grandma’s Marathon award recipients

Grandma’s Marathon has announced its 2009 Ron Daws Ambassador Award and Award of Excellence recipients.

Jim Kirkham is this year’s Ron Daws Ambassador Award winner. Kirkham, of Minneapolis, is a longtime participant in Grandma’s Marathon’s and a dedicated supporter of the organization’s races and events.

Sue Bussa is the 2009 recipient of the Award of Excellence, given annually to an individual for his or her dedication, commitment and service to Grandma’s Marathon. Bussa, of Duluth, was the race’s medical tent coordinator for nearly 30 years.

The 2009 Volunteer of the Year Award will be announced at the race’s volunteer appreciation event on Sunday, June 28.

Grandma’s Marathon weekend kicks off with the SMDC Health System Health and Fitness Expo which begins at 5 p.m. on June 18 and continues all day on Friday, June 19. Other Friday events include the Michelina’s All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti Dinner, the Whipper Snapper Races for Kids, guest speaking presentations, the William A. Irvin 5K and live musical entertainment.
