Hello, my name is Matt Suoja and I have been writing for the Chronicle for about two months, mostly about sports.

I have lived and followed sports here and nationally ever since I could understand what the games were about (I even remember the first baseball game I watched).

It was on TBS between the Atlanta Braves and somebody (don’t remember) and I could not figure out what the little numbers on the left-hand side of the screen meant. Eventually I found out they were for balls and strikes. I guess I never figured out what balls and strikes really were because when I played baseball here, I basically swung at everything with very little success.

For three summers I had the pleasure of working as an intern at the Chronicle. I understand sports fans in the area. Whether it be rooting on your favorite spring sports team in the frigid cold or trying to choose a side in an epic hockey rivalry, the fans here are passionate.

I hope I can fuel that passion with strong reporting and your help.

Don’t be shy if you have an idea for a sports story. Sometimes I’ll miss something in the plethora of e-mails and phone calls I receive. That’s where the fans come in.

Tell me what you want to read about and I will help supply you, with the best of my ability, the story that you would like to see.

Coaches will help in this matter, but so can the fans and parents. Maybe your son or daughter plays a sport and does something interesting on the side, like painting landscapes or they hold the world record for most watermelon eaten in one sitting.

Maybe there’s a fan out there who has been to every Silver Bay or Two Harbors athletic event ever (or close to it).

With your help, the sports section will not be that of the Chronicle’s, but rather that of the reader’s.
