The Hell's Angels should be headed to the North Shore at the end of July. And law enforcement is preparing for their arrival. How is Lake County preparing?

The Hell's Angels should be headed to the North Shore at the end of July.

And law enforcement is preparing for their arrival, Lake County Undersheriff Jerry Norberg told the County Board at its meeting this week.

"We are going to be ready," Norberg said, adding that each squad car would be staffed by two officers to provide for their safety. "If they don't act respectfully, they are going to deal with us."

He said the main ride the Hell's Angels intend to go on is up the North Shore.

There will be a national rally for the Hell's Angels in Minnesota to begin the ride. Many of the events are planned to take place at the Black Bear Casino Resort in Carlton County, as well as a nearby club. In other county board news:

  • There was continued discussion of the Lake County Fiber Initiative. A phone survey to gauge how the area feels about the project should begin in a few weeks. By June 30, there should be a good understanding of how the public feels about the project.

The group conducting the survey is National Public Broadband, which consists of the companies ValleyNet, Development Strategies and Resources Inc. and Eureka Broadband.

The group is also helping to secure funding in the initial phase.

  • The low bid for the Waterfront Drive project came in at about $970,000, said Lake County Engineer Al Goodman. That's about 20 percent less than expected. Plans include widening some of the road by two feet on either side, replanting smaller trees and establishing ornamental lighting.
