Last Wednesday, consistency was key to the Agate track squad at the Polar League Conference Championship in Two Harbors.
The team had members, both on the boys and girls sides, who were consistently in the top 10.
All-Conference honors go to the top two individuals (for individual events) and the winning relay teams (for relay events).
The 4-by-200 meter boys team finished first setting a conference record with time of 1:36.63. Ryan Guentzel ran like the wind winning the 400 and 200 meter dash events. Chad Brelie also finished second in the 200 meter dash.
Caleb Hamp-Sill leaped into success finishing second in the long jump. Matt Wicklund and Alex Rohde put on a show in the shot put finishing first and second respectively. Rohde also won the discus event.
On the girls side, Lacey Myrdal finished second in 800 meter run and Steph McGregor won the discus.
These results are a good sign for sub-sections.
In order for a team member, or group of team members to qualify for a section event, they must finish in the top seven for individual events and top four in relay events at the sub-sections.
The sub-section meet was held Wednesday.
“Both our boys and girls teams we believe will finish strong in the sub-section meet,” said head coach Anthony Altiere. “We hope to qualify many relays and individuals to the sections meet.”
