The fishing opener on Saturday brought many anglers out to the fishing grounds in the hopes of catching the “big one,” - or at least coming up with a story on how the “big one” got away.
LeRoy Veness, of LeRoy’s Repair and Veness Bait and Tackle, said business has been good.
He did go on to mention that the fishing opener was a little slower, as far as the amount of anglers.
“A lot of it had to do with reports of ice out on the lakes,” he said.
Veness mentioned the opener began a week earlier than usual as another explanation of a slower start, which ties in with the weather.
Previous years of poor weather could have also created a lagging beginning.
“A lot of people say they don’t go out on the first weekend,” Veness said.
