Commissioners invite public to meetings

To the Editor,
As a Lake County Commissioner, I would like to draw attention to one of the most recent decisions we as a board have made in regard to local government transparency, accessibility, and accountability.
As Commissioners we are facing many hard decisions. As the economic tide is turning and the shape and role of our governmental body is changing, we are often finding ourselves with very difficult decisions to make. During these unstable times change can be uncomfortable but necessary, which is one of the reasons why I have encouraged and supported the need for making County Board meetings more accessible to the public.
We as a board have committed to hold one evening board meeting a month for the next four months. These meetings will be held on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Lake County Boardroom. I encourage the public to attend these meetings, voice your opinions, and help support more transparent local government.
You are the people who voted for us, we are working for you; we are spending your money. I ask for your cooperation and request that you contact your commissioners and express your thoughts on evening meetings, to help us gauge the need to continue these meetings beyond the next four months.
