John Harold Aasen, 82, Duluth, passed away Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, at his residence, surrounded by his family.
He was born on Dec. 27, 1924, to Andrew and Clara Aasen in International Falls.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. While in International Falls, John worked for M & O Paper Co., was a member of the VFW and past secretary of the Lion's Club. John attended Concordia College-Moorhead. John and family moved to Duluth in 1964 where he worked for Sears department store.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Duluth, and Two Harbors Sons of Norway. He enjoyed being a ham radio operator, fishing on Rainy Lake and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Shirley; brothers, Arnold and Clarence; son Robert; grandson Scott Patterson; and infant grandson Hiltunen.
He is survived by daughters, Susan (Tom) Hiltunen, Virginia, Patricia (Richard) Autio, Duluth, and Mary (Allan) Reed, French River; son John J. (Leone), Duluth; brother Carl J., Auburn, Calif; six grandchildren, Amy (John) Johnston, Fletcher, N.C., Andrew Aasen, Duluth, Tom (Dana) Hiltunen, Britt, Michelle Patterson, Duluth, Sarah (Amir) Permeh, Superior, and Sophia Reed, Duluth; six great-grandchildren, Jake and Adam Johnston, Tye Hiltunen, Kelsey Patterson, Mason and Ella Permeh; very special friend, Lucille Hansen, Two Harbors; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service held Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, Trinity Lutheran Church, 1108 East 8th Street, Duluth. Reverend Jerome Evavold officiating. Arrangements by Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home, Duluth.
