Dr. Mary K. Schlangen, 35, Two Harbors, passed away on Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, in Brook Park, as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident.
She was born Jan. 10, 1972, to George and Catharine (Beck) Palm in Fullerton, Calif. As a child, her family moved to Stillwater.
Mary graduated from Hill-Murray High School, the University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) and the University of Minnesota. She practiced veterinary medicine in Alexandria and Duluth.
Mary’s life was shaped by passionate interests. Her childhood love of animals led to her career as a veterinarian. She also wrote and illustrated Zoe’s Good-bye to help children cope with the loss of a pet. She worked her way through countless creative hobbies, such as painting, photography and knitting.
Mary met her husband, Mark, while at UMD. They were married Aug. 13, 1994, in Stillwater. Their life together has been a celebration of kindred spirits, built around family, community and a shared love of the outdoors.
Mary is survived by her beloved husband Mark; their children, Kaija and Eli; her parents, Stillwater; brothers, David and John; sisters, Christina, Patricia, Susan, Diana and Nancy; maternal grandmother Marjorie Beck; as well as by her husband’s family, nephews and nieces.
Mass of Christian Burial was August 22, 2007, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Two Harbors. Burial at Silver Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Mary Schlangen Family Trust Fund, Wells Fargo Bank, 622 1st Avenue, Two Harbors, MN 55616.
