A $3,000 grant from the LP Foundation’s Community Relief Program was used to secure another $7,500 in matching funds from Hunger Solutions, an organization that assists local food banks. LP recently launched its relief program as a response to tough economic times and in an effort to help relief-oriented nonprofit organizations and schools in communities where the company does business.

The number of area families that have found it necessary to utilize the Two Harbors Food Shelf has significantly increased over the past few months.

Earlier this month, LP cut 13 positions in Two Harbors, reducing its staff there to 109 people, due to a downturn in the market for new housing.
