Head Coach Rick Coughlin is returning for his 18th year as head coach of the boys' baseball team in Two Harbors.

In all of his years coaching, he said the season has never started this late due to weather.

"We may not be out on the field until the end of April," Coughlin said.

The team is coming off a great year: their record was 13-7 and they won the Polar League Conference. They graduated about half of their starters last year, but Coughlin said they should be competitive again this year.

"We've got a couple of holes to fill this year," Coughlin said.

They lost third baseman Cole Myrdahl, outfielders Billy Sell and Jesse Omtvedt and pitcher Sam Strom to graduation.

Though the team hasn't been on the field yet, Coughlin said he's solidified some of the lineup for this season.

Seniors Trygve Lodin and Steve Frikken will return to second base and centerfield, respectively. Junior Kyle Omtvedt will pitch and cover first base, and junior Mark Pearson will also be on the pitcher's mound. Sophomore Tim Bott will play catcher and sophomores Lucas Kempffer and Alex Lemke will round out the squad, with Kempffer at shortstop and Lemke filling in on third, first and as pitcher.

The team's games through April 20 have been cancelled or rescheduled. Their next regular game is scheduled at Barnum on April 23.
