A number of local students earned accolades for their academic performance this spring.

BSU

Grant Anderson of Two Harbors has been awarded a student success scholarship and a university scholarship by Bemidji State University. Anderson is a freshman focusing his studies on biology.

Mesabi Range College.

At Mesabi Range College in Virginia, five local students earned honors. Justin Bredow of Two Harbors, and Jamie Gnerer, Christina Johnson and Dustin LaVigne, all of Silver Bay, earned high honors with 3.75- 4.0 GPAs. Dana Marksmeier of Two Harbors earned honors with a 3.5- 3.75 GPA.

UWS

Nine local University of Wisconsin-Superior students were named to the dean’s list with GPAs over 3.5. Christopher Kuznik of Silver Bay, and Katelyn Adams,

Anthony Ankley, Lee Ellingsen, Ethan Kessler, Timothy Luedtke, Abby Ray and Sara Schield, all of Two Harbors, earned the distinction.

Minnesota State University-Moorhead

Elena Parker of Silver Bay has been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester. She is majoring in psychology. To be eligible for inclusion on the dean’s list, students must carry 12 graded credits and maintain a 3.25 grade point average.

St Olaf College

Sonja Smerud of Silver Bay graduated magna cum laude from St. Olaf College in Northfield. She earned degrees in political science and biology.

Yale University

Former Lake County News-Chronicle reporter and 2010 Two Harbors High graduate, Sonja Peterson, has graduated cum laude from Yale University with departmental distinction in English. She will be working in Cambridge, Mass., at BookBub, a publisher of ebooks.
