Baseball boys finish regular season strong

The Agate baseball squad is entering playoffs after splitting the last handful of games.


They won 13-2 at McGregor last Thursday and defeated Silver Bay Friday morning, with a final score of 9-6. Friday afternoon, they fell 5-4 to Esko. On Wednesday, they lost 7-6 to Barnum and played Wrenshall in the afternoon. Results were not available by press time.

The boys start playoffs next Tuesday.

Softball girls wrap up season

The Agates wrapped up the season with a string of losses.

They fell to Mesabi East 12-10 last Thursday, and were defeated 6-4 by Silver Bay Friday morning and 5-0 by Esko Friday afternoon.

Their first playoff game was against International Falls on Tuesday. They lost the match 10-4, cutting the season short for the girls.

They ended with an 8-9 record.

The team graduates two seniors this year: Courtney Brandt and Lindsay Anderson. One junior will return next year and the rest of the returning members are current sophomores or younger.

Track team competes in subsections

The track team competed in 7A south subsections on Wednesday.

The Two Harbors girls placed an impressive second overall and the boy Agates placed fifth. The girls from Silver Bay came in last and the boys were 11th.

Leann Fynboh finished first in the 400-meter run and her relay team won the 400-meter relay (including Krista Keranen, Karly Fleischer and Jessie Juenemann). Junior Casey Cross placed 1st in shotput.

Those who advanced will compete on May 29 at the University of Minnesota Duluth in the Section 7A tournament.
