Sports roundup: Dec. 27
It was a slow holiday week for sports, with just a few matches to cover.
The Two Harbors boys’ basketballs quad lost their second overtime game of the season to Marshall on Friday. They fell 74-77 to the Hilltoppers, with junior Alex Lemke leading the scoring with 31 points. They are now 4-3.
The Silver Bay basketball boys lost 31-75 to Ely last Friday, bringing their total record to 1-5.
A sparse ski team competed at the Grand Rapids Invitational at Mt. Itasca last Thursday, where the girls’ team finished 6th out of 7 teams and the boys’ squad finished 9th.Junior Scotti Berg finished 24th in the girls’ race and first place for the team, with the top skier Marina Schreiner not in the race. Sophomore Kari Haaversen, Abi Sepike and Ruby Walsberg also raced for the varsity team.Junior Krysi Linville and ighth-grader Emily Haaveri raced for the girls in the junior varsity and the junior high races, respectively.On the boys’ side, only two boys were in the varsity race, with freshman Mikael Overby and sophomore Ethan Compton competing in the race.
