Some roads affected by BWCAW fire now open

Some roads that have been closed since last week because of the Pagami Creek fire have reopened and campfire restrictions have been loosened.

Roads that opened Friday morning include:

• Wanless Rd (172) from Hwy 1 east to Cramer Rd (CR7),

• Cramer Road (CR7) all the way through to and including Cook County Rd 3,

• Trapper's Landing Rd (369) north to Jct of Sawbill Landing Rd (also called 369),

• Dumbell Rd (174) north to Sawbill Landing Rd (369)

• Tomahawk Rd (377) from Hwy 1 to Jct of Northwest Rd (373)

• Mitawan Lake Rd (177), Arrowhead Rd (380), Jensen Rd (949)

• East General Grade Rd (362)

ROADS STILL CLOSED INCLUDE:

• All roads north of and including (from west to east) 381 (near Bog Lake), Northwest Rd (373) to Jct of Sawbill Landing Rd (369) east to Cramer Rd (CR7), and Kawishiwi Lake Rd (354) .

• Tomahawk Rd (377) east of 381/373, MIssabe Rd (379), FR 374, Lake 29 Rd (356), Lunch Lake Rd, Island River Rd (913).

• Any roads west and north of Cramer Rd (CR7) and Sawbill Landing Rd (369).

Campfire restrictions have also been reduced. Between the hours of 6 p.m. to midnight, campfires are allowed anywhere within the Superior National Forest and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Campfires are allowed in fee-for-use campgrounds at any time. In addition, gas and propane stoves are allowed at any time in all areas of the forest.
