Say hey to Bay Days, coming up this week

The annual Silver Bay and Beaver Bay Bay Days celebration takes place July 13-15 throughout the two towns.

Vendors open at noon Friday. There are street dances at the Liquor Lounge Friday and the Green Door Saturday. The fire department serves breakfast Saturday and Sunday. There's a car show Sunday and the big parade at 1 p.m.

Those looking for a work-out to burn off those gyros and mini donuts will find no shortage of activities over the weekend. There's kickball and Frisbee golf tournaments Friday, the return of the Rocky Taconite Softball Tournament all weekend, a family golf tournament Saturday morning, and the Bay-to-Bay 10K run and walk Saturday morning followed by the messy mud run in the afternoon.

For music fans, Fish Soup Band will play Friday and Saturday, girl-rock group Psycho Jane will headline the street dance Friday followed by cover band D'Merritt on Saturday. Silver Bay native Nathan Herfindahl will perform opera with tenor Marcus McConico and pianist Rachel Inselman at William Kelley High School Friday evening.

More events include tours of the North Shore Mining facilities on both Friday and Saturday and All American Lumberjack Shows starting at noon Saturday. A book sale on Saturday at the library and an Ecumenical Service on Sunday round out the options.

Kids can have their fun Saturday starting with the Kid's Carnival in Beaver Bay at 9 a.m. The rest of the day includes model planes, minnow races, and a petting zoo.

Silver Bay will celebrate the grand opening of its biofuel and food greenhouse facility at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the business park
