Parts of Northland may see 10+ inches of snow by late Wednesday

A winter storm is forecast to bring several rounds of snow to the Northland from Monday through Wednesday, with total snowfall in excess of 10 inches possible for some parts of the region.

The National Weather Service in Duluth has issued a winter weather advisory from noon Monday through 6 p.m. Wednesday for all of Northeastern Minnesota and Douglas and Burnett counties in Northwestern Wisconsin. An advisory is in effect for the rest of Northwestern Wisconsin from 6 p.m. Monday through 6 a.m. Thursday.

For the Twin Ports and Northeastern Minnesota, snow is forecast to become widespread by Monday afternoon, with 3 to 5 inches possible through Monday evening, the Weather Service reported. Additional rounds of accumulating snow will continue through Wednesday, with total snowfall in excess of 10 inches possible.

For Northwestern Wisconsin, snow is forecast to become widespread by Monday evening, with 2 to 4 inches possible through Monday night. Additional rounds of accumulating snow may push storm totals in excess of 6 inches through late Wednesday.

In the wake of the snow will come a blast of arctic air. Overnight lows may fall into the teens below zero by the weekend, with daytime highs struggling to rise above zero.
