From Arna Rennan

I am confident that by next week the snow will be gone. I welcome the rain to wash away all the sand and salt. The curb sides and lawns will sprout fresh green grass and the robins might actually find some worms now that they’ve returned to the north. And I imagine our other snowbird friends are returning as well. All the more reason to celebrate the coming of spring.

Hot off the press is the new Socially Active Seniors cookbook entitled, “Hey Good Lookin’ – What’s Cookin?” It’s a brightly colored booklet full of favorite recipes, comfort food, and specialties. We want to thank all the women who contributed their treasured recipes. This cookbook will be made available for purchase at our upcoming events. The price is $12 and it’s a perfect for a gift – or a gift to yourself!

Socially Active Seniors kicks off the season with a bake sale on Saturday, May 10, at Anderson’s Greenhouse from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. We had such an enjoyable event there last year that we are eager to do it again. The hints that I usually drop for Mother’s Day presents involve fresh annuals for my planters. If that crosses your mind, you might also buy a delicious homemade treat that your mother won’t have to bake for herself! We’ll be there with tempting suggestions and coffee for you while you’re making your selections.

Our annual spring tea will be held at the Evangelical Free Church on Wednesday, May 28 at 12 p.m. If you have a special hat, it’s time to show it off. We need gentlemen to come and appreciate our finery and enjoy the meal as well. Do you have a special tea cup with a personal story behind it? Bring that, too. I promise you that the luncheon will be delicious. We are also planning to have music for your entertainment. The cost is a suggested donation of $6.

Look for our newsletter in the mail with the calendar for upcoming events. There are many opportunities to enjoy the summer season with friends and neighbors.
