Elsewhere around the Northland, the majority of roads damaged by June's flooding have reopened. Exceptions include:

Carlton County


Minnesota Highway 210 in the Thomson area and through Jay Cooke State Park will remain closed for some time because of severe flood damage. Two county highways also remain closed -- Highway 6 south of Wrenshall, and Highway 157 in Skelton Township.

City of Duluth

U.S. Highway 2 from Interstate 35 to Boundary Avenue remains closed after being damaged by flooding. As far as city-maintained roadways, a few flood-

damaged streets remain closed, including part of Vermilion Road near Mount Royal; part of Chester Park Drive; and a portion of 63rd Avenue West in West Duluth. The city is maintaining an up-to-date map of road closures and restrictions on its website,

St. Louis County

In addition to Haines and Jean Duluth roads, county highways still closed as of late last week included:

  • County Highway 29 between Meadowlands and Floodwood
  • Two segments of Swan Lake Road west of Alborn
  • Old North Shore Road at the Sucker River, northeast of Duluth
  • Part of Solway Road, north of Maple Grove Road
  • Part of McCamus Road, west of Brookston
  • Dry Road, near Toivola
