Monica Erlene Cardinal passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on March 18, 2014 at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth surrounded friends and family.

She was born on April 22, 1987 in Duluth to Kathryn and Mark Cardinal. She lived most of her life in Two Harbors but also spent time in Winona and Proctor.

She was diagnosed with cancer in August, 2000 when she was 13 years old.

She graduated from Two Harbors High School in 2005 where she was active in basketball (in which she served as a manager), swimming, choir and served as a teacher's assistant. She attended Lake Superior College in Duluth.

She was a member of the United Church of Two Harbors where she served as a deacon.

She enjoyed helping other kids with cancers and worked at camps for children with cancer. She enjoyed camping, doing crafts, making gifts for people and spending time with friends.

She worked at Arc Northland as a PCA.

She was betrothed to Michael Flynn in a ceremony on March 9, 2014.

Her favorite quotation was, "Live like you're dying."

She is preceded in death by her grandfather, Erling Cardinal and her aunt, Cathy Caspersen.

She is survived by her fiance, Michael Flynn and his family; her parents, Kathryn (Douglas) Lindahl and Mark Cardinal; her sisters, Krystal (Lennon) Hanson, Alyssa Lindahl and Courtney Lindahl; her brothers, West Cardinal and Tanner Cardinal; and their mother, Amy Ringler; and grandparents, Mary Jo Lund, James and Phyllis Caspersen, Don and Gloria Lindahl, Shirley Cardinal and Maynard "Pete" Jensen; and by many aunts, uncles, and cousins as well as many close friends.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 22, 1 p.m. at the United Church of Two Harbors, 531 3rd Ave. and a celebration of life to follow at the Moose Lodge, 709 1st Ave., Two Harbors.
