Help needed on fiber project

Email

The Lake Connections broadband fiber project is recruiting temporary workers to residents this month and in July in the Two Harbors and Silver Bay areas to gather signed permission forms to install fiber-optic connections.

Businesses and residents who want to be linked to the high-speed internet network must sign a permission form allowing Lake Connections to install a fiber cable to properties whether they end up using the service or not. The installation is free.

Workers will be assigned to teams of two and will visit homes and businesses from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Lake Connections will provide a two-hour training session as well as printed materials to distribute.

Temporary workers must be age 18 or older, have a valid driver's license and have their own vehicles. Those interested should contact Tim Owens by email at communications@lakeconnections.com. Candidates should also provide in the email a brief description of their ability to perform the job and any familiarity with the project.

The all-fiber-optic network is entering "phase one" of installation, which includes the cities of Two Harbors and Silver Bay. The work is expected to be completed by the fall.

Similar to a phone line, a fiber cable is run from Lake Connections facilities directly to the home or business. The fiber cable is either aerial or buried. The process is quick and simple but requires the property owner's consent.

Permission forms have been mailed to all homes and businesses in Two Harbors and Silver Bay.
