Ruth Himes and Judy Martell recently motored to Rochester where Ruth had her yearly heart operation check-up and received a good report.

Deepest sympathy goes out to the family and friends of Robert Schermerhorn. Robert passed away recently at a hospice in the Twin Cities. Bob and his wife were former residents of the Finland area.

On Sunday, Bishop Aiken attended the Zion Lutheran Church service along with his wife and three children. He gave a very encouraging talk. Bishop Aiken's wife also made Zion a new intinctionary to replace the one Zion had purchased at the conference in Grand Rapids, which was very thoughtful of her. Pastor Ellen Taube of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Mt. Iron was also in attendance and presented a gift to the church for rebuilding.

Many of you may remember Galen Thostenson was a teacher in Silver Bay in the early years of William Kelley High School. He and his wife, now living in Mound, Minn., were in the area to attend the Class of 1968 reunion during Bay Days. They also attended Zion's Church service on Sunday.

Jim and Sharon Pierce of Cumberland, Wis.., were recently in the area and stopped to visit with Verna Sinderman on Wednesday. Jim lived here with his family, renting on Nikolai Farm in the 1950's. We had a great trip down memory lane as we had not seen each other in over 50 years. He also stopped by Nikolai Farm to recall some fun times he had as a child.

Lloyd Houle celebrated his 85th birthday on Sunday. Happy Birthday, Lloyd!

It will be a busy weekend in Finland. Motor on down and enjoy the Zion Pie Social on Saturday at the Clair Nelson Center. Also at the center on Saturday will be a silent auction held by Save the Booya Committee and pre-sales for butter braid breads. On Saturday evening there will be a Safe the Booya softball dance from 8- 12 p.m. DJ/karaoke provided by Houley and Mo.

Come out and support the Finland Fire and Rescue's Wooden Bat Tournament on Saturday and Sunday. Enjoy some ball games, catching up with old friends and great food.
