That's a lot of L's, but well deserved. Split Rock Lighthouse manager Lee Radzak earned the 2013 Award for Historic Preservation from the Association for Great Lakes Maritime History for his work on preserving and restoring the 1910-vintage lighthouse on Minnesota's North Shore of Lake Superior.

Radzak, who has managed the historic lighthouse since 1982, has led the development of an expanded interpretive program, overseen the construction of the Split Rock Lighthouse History Center in 1986 and most recently supervised restoration of the lighthouse and fog-signal buildings. He headed up centennial programming for the lighthouse's anniversary in 2010. Radzak joined the Minnesota Historical Society in 1976 as an archaeologist working on state park master plans and on the Minnesota Statewide Archaeological Survey.

The award was presented earlier this month at the 2013 Maritime History Conference on Mackinac Island in Michigan.
