GRAND MARAIS -- Cook County Attorney Tim Scannell was charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct today over an alleged inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old girl.

While the victim in the case was older than 16 -- the age of consent in Minnesota -- Scannell was more than four years older than her, and in a position of authority, which makes the incident a criminal offense. A grand jury returned the indictment on Oct. 22.
