Thanks to dangerous winds today, burn permits aren't available in Lake, Cook and northern St. Louis counties.

Burn permits are required when a fire is more than 3 feet high and 3 feet in diameter and the ground is not covered in snow. Contained fires in grills or camp stoves or other approved structures do not require burning permits.

If people have already gotten permits from wardens, they will not be activated and therefore burning is not permitted.
