Beargrease: Where to watch and schedule of events

Email

Where to watch

Highway 2, north of Two Harbors

This will be a good spot to view teams, mushers and handlers passing through Sunday from dusk on. Marathon teams are not likely to spend much time here on the upbound route but they are required to take a six-hour mandatory layover here on the return leg with teams returning Tuesday night. There will be a bonfire, food, and merchandise available and a whirlwind of activity with marathon teams coming and going until after midnight Tuesday.

Beaver Bay

Marathoners will check in at Beaver Bay in the early a.m. hours Monday near the Agate Shop and Green Door. They return afternoon through evening on Tuesday.

Finland

The Finland stop offers good food and refreshments in a heated tent, which provides a good place for a little rest for the mushers, handlers, race officials and dogs. Spectators and volunteers enjoy this stop because they can more easily talk with some of the mushers and handlers. Look for the mid-distance racers from midnight to early morning Monday with marathoners coming through later that morning. The marathoners come back through Tuesday evening after turning around on the Gunflint Trail, headed for a Wednesday morning finish in Duluth.

Mid-distance finish line, Tofte

The mid-distance race will finish in the shoreline community of Tofte. Expect the first mushers to arrive Monday morning.
