Mountain Iron-Buhl scored on its first three possessions as they raced out a 24-0 first quarter lead, which they managed to up to 30-0 at halftime. The game was played at Dolan Field in Mountain Iron. Sophomore quarterback Archie Winans completed 13 of 26 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown, then ran for 73 yards and 2 more TDs.Luke Small completed 9 of 16 passes for the Mariners and ran for both of the Mariner scores.

The Mariners took the opening kickoff and promptly went 3 and out. The Rangers went 80 yards in 11 plays with their first possession of the ball. The drive was finished off by a 11-yard pass from Winans to Jared Schultz. The next Mariner drive saw a punt blocked and the ball ending up on the Mariner 23- yard line. Three plays later Winans ran in from eight yards out to make it 16-0. A 15-yard run by Winans made it 24-0 before the first quarter was completed. In the second quarter, a Mariner fumble gave the Rangers the ball at the Mariner 41. Logan Hultgren finished off this possession with a 15- yard run and a 30-0 Ranger lead at halftime. The Mariners penetrated Ranger territory once in the first half when a punt gave them the ball at the Ranger 49. They lost yardage on the next play and that pretty much summed up their first half.

The Rangers received the second-half kickoff and ended up turning the ball over to the Mariners on downs at the Mariner 33. The Mariners advanced to the Ranger 9 where a sack put them in a 4th and 6 situation. A field goal attempt by Jonah Koehler was just a little wide to the left.The Rangers then drove 80 yards for another score on a 5- yard run by Trent Combs. The Mariners continued their offensive revitalization by scoring on their next two possessions via runs of 15 and 1 yards from Small. The second score was set up by a 69- yard pass from Small to Eben Fischer. Jaylon Holmes completed the game's scoring with a 65- yard dash down the sidelines to make the final score 46-14 in favor of the Rangers.

Eben Fischer led the Mariner defense with nine tackles.Michael Fischer and Small each finished with seven.

Tonight's game is at home versus the Cherry Tigers. The Tigers broke a 21 game losing streak last week with a 30-8 victory over the Northeast Range Nighthawks.The captains for the Mariners this season are Luke Small, Jonah Koehler, Chad Smuk and Michael Klofstad.

The Mariner volleyball team lost a very tough match at Floodwood last week. The Polar Bears swept the Mariners by scores of 25-22, 26-24 and 25-18. Brandi Nopola had four kills and six digs to go with four kills and five blocks from Sydney Topp. Ally Kloster had six ace serves for the Bay.
