Bayside chatter: Dec. 13
From Steve Gow
A win and a loss for the Storm
The North Shore Storm split a pair of contests last weekend. They lost 3-1 to the Faribault Falcons at Silver Bay and defeated the Pine City Dragons 4-0 at Two Harbors.
The Falcons got first period goals from Austin Bauer and Jake Murray and one in the second period from Christian Von Ruden as they built a 3-0 lead they would never give up. The Storm cut it to 3-1 just 52 seconds into the final period when Luke Small set up Tyler Schramm. There was still plenty of time to catch up, but with just over three minutes left to play, the Storm took two penalties, which pretty much ended the contest in favor of the Falcons. Going 0 for 7 with a man advantage didn’t help either. Zach Duresky stopped 26 Falcon shots and Chase Batchelder had 30 saves for the Falcons.
After a scoreless first period at Lake County Arena, the Storm erupted for three second period goals. Schramm stole the puck up high near the blue line, went in and rifled it top shelf from the top of the circles for what proved to be the game winner. Jonah Koehler and Corey Johnson each had shots on goal on a play that was finished off by Quaid Cavallin for his first varsity goal. Then Ryan Rasmussen took a feed from Small on a 2 on 1 through the legs of the defender, to make it 3-0. Schramm finished off the scoring on a one timer from the slot on a power play set up by Mills Johnson. Duresky had 12 stops in the Storm nets while the Strom put 27 shots on the Dragon nets.
Girls’ hockey The girls lost 3-0 to Pequot Lakes on the road as the opponents scored once in each period for the victory.
The girls’ game versus the Duluth Northern Stars has been rescheduled for Dec. 30.
